Jackson Safety, LLC


  • Oversaw domestic and international transportation and logistics for Jackson Safety and its subsidiaries located in the US, UK, Canada, and China. Managed a $15M budget and directed several key areas that included global freight contract negotiations; corporate compliance for import/export and domestic shipping; freight invoice auditing and payment; cross-functional standard operating procedures; customer service; KPI reporting; and systems development, which included SAP ERP and EDI connectivity. Developed load optimization and consolidation plans for all of the manufacturing and distribution facilities. Facilitated the corporate compliance program (US Customs, IATA/IMDG, HazMat/DOT, and NAFTA). • Headed freight contract negotiations that ultimately reduced the freight spend from 15.3% of sales in 2006 to 6.7% of sales in 2008. • Researched and implemented new freight payables program, which reduced costs from $300K to $25K per year. • Established Vendor Consolidation Program, which reduced Import costs by $500K in 2008. • Successfully headed transportation and logistics development functions for the re-launch of SAP, including Master Data cleanup, load building, routing, and rating. • Oversaw NMFC and HTS classifications for over 30,000 SKUs; produced savings of $70K in 2006. • Led Provider EDI connectivity (850/855/856 with vendors and 210/211/214 with carriers) that reduced data exchange errors.

  • Handled inbound and outbound transportation for the consumer products divisions, including distribution network sites in St. Louis, Georgia, California, Pennsylvania, the US/Mexico border, and ten contract manufacturing and packaging facilities. Oversaw a budget of $100M and a staff of 15, including freight coordinators, freight claims analysts, and shipping/receiving clerks. Negotiated carrier contracts. Managed the EDI 210/211 implementation. Monitored the material master data (units of measure, HTS and NMFC Classifications, weights and dims), route determination logic, order/delivery/shipment consolidation, freight tendering, shipment rating, and freight payables processing. Initiated loss prevention strategies. • Reduced and maintained freight costs at 6% of sales annually. • Reduced freight claim write-offs to less than $0.01 per $1K in sales. • Worked directly with outside legal counsel to develop boiler plate contract of carriage used for all modes. • Implemented a contract management database that facilitated provider bids. • Coordinated numerous IS projects that facilitated web-based reporting tools (shipping log, equipment forecasting, and dock utilization reports).
