As a former MSU student having returned to college due to harsh economic times, my acquired passion while in the working world now is teaching. I have maintained a high level of curiosity about teaching during moments of instructor training for the DOD as a defense contract worker. I acknowledge that teaching is not for everyone. However, teaching is an integral part of the development of future leaders as well as instructors in the education field and elsewhere in working society. My career goal now is to become a teacher of my major Biology with my focus on marine science. I have had the opportunity to visit the Estuarine Research Center run by MSU. It strengthened my desire to learn more about marine science and then to instruct others on the biological understanding of what lies beneath our oceans as well as their value to our earth. Also, I have written two course-related review papers on several molecular species of bacterium that specifically inhabit the Chesapeake Bay here in Maryland. The other was about molecular RNA dependent cell division of ciliates. These experiences, along with a recent graduate course in oceanography have reinforced my desire to teach biology with a focus on marine science. Further, I intend to use my career platform to give back to society by mentoring young ones who, like myself are fascinated by biology as well as marine science.
