RssClinical Research Scientist

I would like to obtain a Clinical Scientist Position in the pharmaceutical industry. I am currently finishing my second year of an industry-based clinical research/drug development fellowship program with United Therapeutics (UT) in collaboration with the University of North Carolina (UNC). My training and experience has primarily been focused on early stage clinical development, particularly in Phase I clinical pharmacology and PK/PD studies. The main therapeutic area of focus of my fellowship has been in oncology (Neuroblastoma, Leukemia, Ovarian, Breast), but I have also gained extensive experience in rare/orphan diseases, such as Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension, while at United Therapeutics. Prior to obtaining my Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) degree at the University of Georgia, I have always planned to pursue a career as an industry-based clinical scientist involved in a significant amount of clinical research design, protocol writing, and data analysis. As I have progressed in my fellowship and career in the pharmaceutical industry, I have taken initiative to successfully gain experience in authoring and editing multiple Phase I and II protocols (UT and UNC), authoring clinical study reports (UT), participating and contributing to interdisciplinary clinical study team meetings for Phase I-IV studies (UT), conducting site initiation/ site evaluation visits (UT), authoring annual updates to the Investigators’ Brochure for UT-15C (UT), conducting pre-specified and post-hoc data analysis (UT and UNC), authoring abstracts and presenting research posters at scientific/medical conferences (UT and UNC), publishing manuscripts and book chapters (UT and UNC), conducting PK data analysis (including NCA, Population PK, and PBPK modeling) using Phoenix WinNonlin Software (UNC and UT), and voluntarily auditing graduate level coursework in Pharmacokinetics and Clinical Research (UNC). I have also learned a great deal about the advantages and strategies to successfully collaborating with external investigators and vendors in order to effectively design and conduct clinical research studies. I strongly believe that my drug development experiences and skills learned thus far will be highly translatable to any drug development position within the industry. Sincerely, Parag Kumar, Pharm.D.
