RssFamily Nurse Practitioner

I am a licensed registered nurse since 1990. I started in 1990 rotating in every area of the hospital with my specialty in ICU. I have worked most of that time with the exception of a few years in which I spent starting a family. On resumption of my career in the later 1990's, I worked as case manager for the elderly making home visits and evaluations for the multifaceted areas of needed assistance. Each case managed by assessing, evaluating, and implementing services available to meet the needs of my community in rural southwest Virginia. Working Home health care as RN added to my foundation of independence, confidence, and ability to practice the many nursing skills provided in outpatient settings. The challenges of the emergency department further added to specific areas only experienced in emergencies and high stress. Through the years of hospital practice, I enjoyed rotating in other areas of the hospital gaining knowledge, experience, and meeting staff from other department areas of practice. I realize the importance in continuing education and practice to keep up with ever changing evidence based practices. I have continually used my skills as a registered nurse while continuing my education in nursing to practice as an Advance Practice Nurse. My educational background and experience has prepared me for the role of Advance Practice Nurse. In particular, my study of Nursing has given me a solid background so that I can perform the job duties that are necessary to your practice. My experience as a mentor to area nursing students’ precepting and clinical instructor further proves my dedication assisting others to reach their goals.
